Each cell represents a quarter-mi 0le square of the land surface, and the cells are coded to represent whether the 0 wells included within the cell are predominantly oil-producing, gas-producing, 0 both oil and gas-producing, or dry. The well information was initially retriev 0ed from the Petroleum Information (PI) Well History Control System (WHCS), whic 0h is a proprietary, commercial database containing information for most oil and 0 gas wells in the U.S. Cells were developed as a graphic solution to overcome 0the problem of displaying proprietary WHCS data. No proprietary data are displa 0yed or included in the cell maps. They 0were then imported into ArcInfo coverages using the GENERATE command.
